Frame Reception: When a device sends data over the network, it’s encapsulated in a data frame containing source and destination MAC addresses.
Learning Process: The Ethernet switch listens to incoming data frames and learns the MAC addresses of the devices connected to its ports. It maintains a MAC address table, which maps each MAC address to the specific port of the switch where it was detected.
Forwarding Frames: When a frame arrives, the switch checks the destination MAC address. Using its MAC address table, it determines the appropriate port to forward the frame to the intended recipient. If the destination MAC is unknown (not in the table), the switch will broadcast the frame to all ports, except the one it was received on, until it discovers where the device is located.
